Carlton Town FCs whos who

  Name Position
Ashley Winfield Programme Editor

Bob Sharpe Groundsman

Bob has proved an excellent signing for the club and has transformed the pitch with an ongoing programme of works, care and attention. Carlton currently have one of the best pitches in the Unibond league and Bob deserves all the praise that comes his way.

Brian Dennett Press Officer

Dennett’s background with the Nottingham Evening Post has helped to give him excellent reporting skills and his excellent match day reports which are featured in the Evening Post and Football Post have helped raise the clubs profile as they have embarked on their first season in the Unibond league.

Chris Chaplin Assistant Groundsman

Bob’s assistant Chris is the type of person who typifies why the club has become so successful, will put his hand to anything to help the club and is one of the most popular figures to be seen at the ground. Recently unplugged himself from a hospital bed in order to attend a game and was rightly lambasted by the hospital doctors but his love for the club knows no bounds.

Chuck Fowler Vice Chairman

Fowler joined the club soon after the appointment of Mick Garton as Chairman and has overseen the redevelopment of the ground following the opening of the new Gedling relief road. Chuck, as he is affectionately known is the ideal foil for the Chairman as his strengths lye in different areas. Chairman Mick Garton describes him as one of the clubs best ever signings and admits he would be lost without him and the facilities we have now would not be in place without the supreme effort and time Chuck has put in to ensuring the ground and the pitch came up to Unibond standard.

Darryl Claypole Academy Director
The silver fox is back at the club in the role he enjoys most Academy director Darryl will be responsible for bringing through the next batch of youngsters who will hopefully follow in the footsteps of Dean Gent and Martin Ball. Claypole is planning a club tour for the summer of 2009 and has already hit the ground running.
Dave Nairn Assistant Manager

Nairny, as he is affectionately known is Tommy’s longest serving Assistant Manager or perhaps that should be surviving as Brookbanks went through one or two assistants in his early days. Nairn provides a good foil for the bouncy Brookbanks and has been at his side for all the recent Carlton triumphs, he was also a former tough tackling midfielder with the club and even in his later days there was often a ‘Nairn Time’ during a game when Dave would come on and make his impact on games and one feels he would still like to do so although that is unlikely to be the case ever again.

Frank Corrigan Assistant Reserve Manager

Corrigan’s wealth of experience comes mainly from the Junior section of football and his talents lye in spotting youngsters with potential and helping them to fulfill that potential as they make the step up from junior to senior football. Joined the club on the recommendation of first team coach Gary Stones and has proved an asset both with his involvement with academy last season and the reserves in the current season.

Gary Stones First Team Coach

It’s no coincidence that Carlton’s fortunes turned for the better when the popular coach joined Tommy Brookbanks’ backroom staff, with him came new ideas and a new intensity which Brookbanks believes have helped bring the club its rewards. The usually reserved ‘Stonner’ comes to life on a club night out and the role of respected coach transforms into the ultimate party animal.

Ian White Reserve Manager
The new reserve manager has been appointed from within. 1st team regular for many years and will play a major part for the reserves both on and off the field this season. Management was the next natural step for Whitey after a long and successful career and he will have the added challenge of managing in the new look reserve league.
Jenny & Sam Doors Clubhouse Sports Bar/Catering

Jenny and Sam are members of the famous Doors family which have followed the club for many years, they look after match day catering for the sponsors and ensure the smooth running of the clubhouse sports bar and tea bar. Jenny's voice can often be heard as it is more powerful than our public address system, the popular girls help make the club tick and their efforts are appreciated by everyone.

Kev Randall Academy Manager
Kev has returned to the club three years on after leading the clubs youngsters to cup success at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground. He is widely regarded as one of the best young coaches around and has also previously held the position of junior chairman at the club. He is looking forward to his new challenge as Carlton’s Academy manager.
Mark Steggles Five a Side Chief

Once a talented midfielder with the club, sometimes a referee and now the clubs five/seven a side tournament chief, Steggs was appointed to run the superb new five a side facilities following the reopening of the ground and is doing a fantastic job for the club. His firm but fair approach has won the admiration of players and managers alike and his role is ever expanding as more and more teams join up for the leagues and book tournaments at the ground. Has also been known to play in goal in emergencies for local Radio station Trent FM and won the title of ‘White Ninja’ after some amazing performances although some have noticed his performances dipping of late, young MSR striker John Hickling recently suggested he should stick to refereeing but noted he spends most of his time in the bar and has become an expert on the IT Box, even when his advice is unwanted.

Mick Garton Chairman

Since taking over as Chairman in 2002, Garton has transformed the infrastructure of the club and it now boasts some of the finest facilities in local football. His achievements off the pitch have matched the manager's on it, oversaw the tie in with Porchester Lions to create Carlton Town's Junior section and set up the clubs Academy team which he managed during the first season and led to promotion. Has brought in a whole host of new sponsors which have helped transform the club from a Central Midlands outfit to a Unibond one. Now working very closely with Mark Steggles to promote the superb new five a side facilities, leagues and corporate events in a continued attempt to keep the club moving forward

Mini Me Match Day Assistant

Mini Me has joined the backroom staff during 2008 and has made an instant impression.

Has become very close to Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks and they are often seen before a game exchanging knowledge.

Mini has taken charge of the match day raffle and number card and is quickly becoming part of the furniture at Stoke Lane.

Enjoys a beverage or two!

Paul Shelton Secretary

Paul was recently described by Chuck Fowler as the best secretary in non-league football bar none and will be sadly missed when he steps down at the end of the season. Paul has been with the club for more years than he would probably care to remember and his dedication in several positions over the years make him indeed part of the clubs heartbeat. Has seen the club come up from the Notts Alliance and work its way through the Central Midlands leagues and the Northern Counties leagues through to the Unibond league. Has been at manager Tommy Brookbanks’ side throughout all those promotions and despite stepping down at the end of the season, he has said he will still attend games and may even run the new club shop. There will always be a place for Paul Shelton at Carlton Town.

Pete Bignall Senior Steward

Pete has been an exellent addition to the Carlton Town staff.

Pete is an experienced steward and takes charge of match day security and he has become a popular and respected member of the team.

Roger Smith President

Roger spent many years with the club in the years before Mick Garton’s tenure and is very much part of the clubs proud history. He was asked to come back as President following the sad death of Bill Stokeld who Carlton’s ground was subsequently named after. Smith was happy to accept and enjoys his role greeting fellow Presidents and committee members in the clubs corporate suite. Smith, a fine golfer himself is also responsible for putting together the clubs annual golf day which is always a hugely popular date in the clubs calendar.

Tim Scott Club Photographer

Highly respected local photographer Tim Scott is another key member of the Carlton Town team and covers all major events at the ground. His most famous clip caught the historic flashpoint at Garforth Town when Tommy Brookbanks and Simon Clifford went nose to nose. Ironically the two men have since taken each others scalp on major occasions and gone on to show mutual respect for each other. While Scott continues to flick his lens and capture those all important moments in time.

Tommy Brookbanks Head Coach

Brookbanks has had unprecedented success as Carlton manager; he has led the team to five promotions in the last 11 years including three in the last 5 years. In recognition of his outstanding achievements he has been awarded a testimonial dinner which was recently held at the Village Hotel with guest speaker, ex Premiership referee Jeff Winter entertaining everyone and he is set for a match to be announced in due course. The forthright manager does not suffer fools and believes in playing an attractive style of football (gung ho) and was recently described as the non-league version of Kevin Keegan although he does seem to be having more success than Keegan at the moment. Chairman Mick Garton has asked Brookbanks to bring home a cup and Brookbanks has told Chairman Mick Garton to get the ground ready for Unibond Premiership football; the two of them have made a fantastic team.

Vaughan Williams Executive Director

Vaughan joined the club in the summer of 2007 following his company’s building of the new corporate suite and dressing room complex. His financial input and passion have helped the club settle into life in the Unibond league, he is even known to train with the players on occasions and is now a key part of the clubs senior management team. The new B&K stand was named after his company following his superb commitment. The stand was opened by former Nottingham Forest double winning European Cup legend Kenny Burns.
