CHASETOWN 5 CARLTON TOWN 0

Last years giant killers Chasetown made easy work of Carlton Town who contributed to their own downfall with a string of fatal errors. The teams looked fairly well matched in the first half but a bad back pass from Willis Francis was pounced on by the prolific Dean Perrow and he gave Chasetown a 1-0 half time lead.

Carlton started the second half brightly and new signing Ackers went close as did Gent but it was that man Perrow again who got the crucial second reacting quicker than anyone else to a loose ball in Carlton's box.Harry harris added a third after a mix up between subsitute Ball and keeper Bercherini and by the time Craig Holland added a 4th on 78 minutes,Carlton's heads had cleary dropped.

The 5th goal about summed up Carlton's day , Dean Gent won a free kick on the edge of Chasetown's box after a fine run but passed the ball to a Chasetown player from the resulting kick and seconds later it was in Carlton's net with Perrow superbly chipping Bercherini to complete the 5-0 win.It was Carlton's worst defeat for 4 years but Chasetown's FA cup magic continues while Carlton's only positive was the debut of  Ackers who with the right support will prove a handful for unibond defences going forward.

Carlton 1 Rushall Olympic 2

A second home defeat leaves Carlton 3rd from bottom of Unibond Division One in their 2nd season at this level but once again they dominated the game and supporters were left shaking their heads in disbelief as they missed chance after chance. Carlton did themselves no favours early on and a defensive mix up saw the home side go a goal behind through Larney.

Brown added a second within 2 minutes outpacing the Carlton finally defence and finishing superbly. Carlton finally settled and had the best of the remainder of the half although Barcerini in the Carlton goal had to be at his best coming off his line several times to clear up the danger.

In the second period Carlton came storming back. Gent came on at half time and Wilkinson and Hawkridge were soon added to the mix but despite excellent chances for Bignall, Brady, Cain, Brindley and Ball, Carlton could not find a goal.

Finally Bignall Gave them a shout after heading home after a fine cross from Hawkridge but as the clock ticked down Wilkinson headed over after a fine move and Gent  through on goal blazed his effort over the bar in the last minute of injury time.

Carlton despite playing some fine football just 2 points from 12 and manager Tommy Brookbanks looked a frustrated figure as the final whistle blew.

Carlton Town manager Tommy Brookbanks expressed delight at his teams response to the opening day defeat by Retford United."We were much better and dominated large parts of the game,I was delighted at the lads performance, we were unlucky not to win it"

For the record ,Powell gave Sheffield a lead against the run of play before Martin Ball and Grant Brindley gave Carlton a second half lead but with just five minutes remaining Partridge pulled Sheffield level.

Carlton had conceded too many free kicks late on and they finally got punished although Brookbanks felt one or two of the decisions against them were unjust.

"I usually blast my players for conceding around the box but felt one or two decisions went against us ,having said that Sheffield are a very good side and will be there or there abouts again at the death".

Although i thought we could have  won it a point here is a very good point"concluded Brookbanks

Carlton Town 1 Retford United 3

The day started well for Carlton with the clubs most promising youngster Terry Hawkridge signing a one year contract with the prospect of a another year for the club.

It went downhill pretty rapidly from their,Aiden Brady should of given Carlton an early lead but failed to connect properly with a header in the six yard box but Carltons nemaphis Godber made no mistake at the other end with a flick header from a corner.

Carlton settled and played some tidy football but lacked a cutting edge and a decent final ball and when Retford came strong again later in the first half,Owens made it two with a cracking volley which went in off the bar.

Carlton were not defending particually well and it was clear the next goal would be vital and once again it went Retfords way and it was that man Godber again. It started with a poor clearance from Martin Ball and finished with a clinical strike from Godber into the bottom left hand corner, somewhere in between all that Carlton were opened up by Retford with frightening ease.

The game was affectively over but Chaplin livened things up for Carlton when he came on and did pull a goal back after good work from Hawkridge and Thomas and indeed Carlton nearly added a second at the death but it was to little to late and on the day Retford proved to strong and experienced for the young Carlton side and showed while they were champions last season, they continued where they had left off and on the day were deserved winners.
