GIGANTIC BOOST FOR CARLTON CUP

STEGGLES FIVE A SIDE LATEST

The Carlton Cup seven a side competition set to be played over the summer at Stoke Lane received a massive boost when Chairman Mick Garton revealed he had secured sponsorship for the event from a global giant.

Mars Confectionary are the big name who have agreed to back this new look tournament.

Mars, who carry massive brands such as Snickers, Twix, Topic and Starburst in their portfolio are on a big footballing crusade over the summer getting heavily involved with football with a massive TV marketing campaign, they are giving away thousands of footballs and are now lending their support to Carlton Town.

“It’s great news” said Carlton Cup tournament chief Mark Steggles.

“It’s a massive boost for the competition and we are absolutely delighted.”

Steggles also confirmed he is putting final touches to the tournament which is expected to start on Tuesday 20th May and run throughout June on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

There is expected to be two leagues of seven teams playing each other once with the top four teams going through to the knock out stages of the competition.

The quarter finals will be held in early July with a finals night in mid July incorporating the two semi finals and the final. Steggles has said he may use the weekend days to pull in fixtures if the need arises.

A full breakdown of teams in the two groups with opening fixtures will be announced shortly so watch this space.

ANOTHER THRILLING DAY OF FOOTBALL AT STOKE LANE FINISHES WITH A TRENT FM FLOURISH BUT MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT ARE THE REAL WINNERS

SUNDAY 4th MAY 2008

Another day in the life of Carlton Town and a busy and worthwhile one it proved, the day started with the EMPAL cup final and Nottingham Law School defeated division 2 champions Linford Nelson 6-0.

Carlton Chairman Mick Garton was asked to present the trophies and such was the positive response of the event, the EMPAL league have already asked to rebook the facilities for 2009 but it was the afternoons Trent FM game that will catch the headlines for all the right reasons.

In the afternoon it was the turn of Trent FM and Arnold North End to provide the entertainment in a cracking charity match with thrills and spills galore.

The match had been organised by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Steve Whitt with Carlton Vice Chairman Chuck Fowler agreeing to the use of Carlton’s facilities free of charge, the goal being to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer support charity.

Arnold North End had former Notts County hero and Arnold Town star Devon White in their line up while Trent’s Mark Dennison boasted Carlton Town stars Dean Gent and Martin Ball.

With both Carlton players suffering a hangover following the Jeppo tribute night and Trent all over the place at the back, it was no surprise when White and co gave Arnold a commanding 3-0 half time lead.

When Arnold went 4-0 up early in the second half with a blockbuster, it looked like good night Vienna but then Carlton’s Executive Director Vaughan Williams came to the party.

Now Vaughan’s playing days are well behind him but he turned back the years for Trent, firstly with a goal line clearance which would have made it five and then a goal which changed the whole course of events.

Vaughan’s excellent finish in the box made it 4-1 and when referees assistant Chris Chaplin signalled a goal after a shot had cannoned off the underside of the bar, the door was most certainly open.

Arnold objected and had a man booked but Chaplin was adamant he had made the correct call and the referee backed him; 4-2.

Finally, Ball and Gent came out of slumber land and the game was turned on its head.

4-2 became 4-5 with both players finding the net, Ball twice and Gent once.

Trent FM skipper Mark Dennison was a proud man and he said he was “honoured to captain a team capable of such a comeback.”

Dennison went on to say “There can’t be anyone reading this who hasn’t been affected in some form by cancer, it is a cruel disease that destroys lives and families but the work of Macmillan goes a long way to ease suffering, we were pleased to lend our support and the game was played in the right way.”

Arnold’s Devon White backed up Dennison’s comments “Playing football for Arnold North End FC in aid of the Macmillan cancer charity was a pleasure and a worthy cause.

“It took me back to my Arnold Town days and shows me how time passes by, I still love football and playing when my injuries allow me.

“It was good seeing old faces/friends again, please everyone give as much support and help to this charity as you can because we all know someone who needs their help and support.”

The charity’s Helen Curtis was delighted with the support from Steve Whitt and everyone who supported this event, she said “Thank you to Steve Whitt and all his supporters who have helped to make this a fun and successful fundraising event.

“Donations given will help to make a difference to those affected by cancer, the charity relies on the generosity of its supporters to continue its work today, tomorrow and for the future.”

The afternoon finished with Mark Dennison drawing the superb raffle and Carlton Chairman Mick Garton doing the auction before excellent young singers ‘Kill by Kate’ enthralled the Carlton Town audience and brought this excellent worthwhile event to a close.

Carlton Academy Director Darryl Claypole who had given his help to the event on the day was asked if he had spotted any potential Academy players, he remarked “The Academy is for under 19’s not under 90’s”

He was accurate and cut to the chase as always but he did have a smile on his face, as did Steve Whitt, it had been a good day and one in which everybody involved can feel proud to have played a part.

GOOD TURNOUT FOR THE JEPHSONS

Supporters, players and club officials turned out in force for the Jephson tribute night at Stoke Lane.

A race night was held and Carlton Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks was the guest speaker.

Darryl Claypole, who has recently returned to the club superbly compared the evening alongside racing chief Roger Cooke.

Brookbanks’ speech was of the highest calibre while Claypole showed he had lost none of his polish, Cooke had aged by comparison.

David Jephson made a lovely speech paying tribute to Tommy Brookbanks and Chairman Mick Garton who he said had transformed the club in an outstanding partnership on and off the pitch.

The family have all been with the club for twelve years, Martin as physio, David as a player and Pam has filled several roles including Secretary, Press Officer and now looks after match day hospitality.

The family thanked everyone for their support and were delighted with the turnout.

IT’S THE TREBLE FOR HULLEY & HIS BOYS

CARLTON TOWN RESERVES 5  -  0  NETTLEHAM RESERVES

Carlton Town Reserves completed a fantastic treble to secure the Presidents Cup in front of a decent crowd at Southwell FC on a pleasant spring evening as they beat Nettleham 5-0.

There was an obvious gap in class between the two sides and although Nettleham could not be criticised for their endeavour, Carlton were always making the running with an exciting brand of free flowing football which runs through the heart of the club.

It was as early as the third minute when Carlton took the lead with Ricky Gardener sweeping the ball home after a flowing move.

Danny Hayes was to put away a first half brace and despite a ten minute flourish when Nettleham could have claimed a goal themselves, Carlton were always in control although Nettleham had a fair shout for a penalty early on when Leslie looked to have handled in the box.

Veteran Ian White had to limp off after a horrible challenge from Nettleham’s number 10, it appeared late and premeditated and many felt he was lucky to receive a yellow card rather than a red.

With Carlton 3-0 up at the break, it was a case of ensuring no slip ups in the second half but manager George Hulley need not have worried.

His team ripped Nettleham’s back line to pieces, overran them in midfield and the score would have been more but for some fine saves from the Nettleham keeper, often with whichever part of the body he could get in the way but Simon Wilkinson came to the party in the second half with Terry Hawkridge and young striker Stephen Cox running at Nettleham across the channels and through the middle and Wilkinson, who’s finishing continues to impress head coach Tommy Brookbanks producing more master classes and his brace made it 5-0 to Carlton.

His first goal the result of a flowing move started from the keeper and involving Hawkridge and Cox which Wilkinson finished in the box, his second a classy finish when put through on goal late on.

Carlton Academy Director Darryl Claypole struggled to come up with a man of the match, he was “that impressed with the whole team” and first team assistant manager Dave Nairn reeled off a number of names.

Chairman Mick Garton and groundsman Bob Sharpe were two of the first to arrive determined not to miss this final after having to stop at Stoke Lane for George Hulley’s previous success and once again there was an excellent turnout from Carlton which didn’t go unnoticed by Hulley’s assistant Frank Corrigan who thanked “everyone for the tremendous support”

There was a moving moment when Carlton Captain Tremayne Walters went to collect the trophy with Francis Walker, wife of the late Ron Walker. It was a fitting end and the perfect way to celebrate a fine treble by Hulley’s excellent young side.

RESERVES CLINCH TITLE AT A RAINSWEPT STOKE LANE

It had been a rollercoaster of a weekend at Stoke Lane with the Tommy Brookbanks situation claiming all the headlines both inside and outside the club but with that situation put to bed, it was time to get back to the football and everyone at the club knew that a win against Kimberley Town Reserves would secure Carlton Town reserves the title.

Carlton were taking no chances and big guns Phil Bignall, Marquin Smith and Martin Ball lined up alongside promising youngsters Simon Wilkinson and Terry Hawkridge as reserve coach George Hulley attempted to secure his second trophy of the season.

New Academy Director Darryl Claypole, Chairman Mick Garton, Secretary Paul Shelton and Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks along with all the first team squad and coaching staff had come along to support the reserves as well as Executive Director Vaughan Williams along with one or two supporters and parents who braved the elements. It was a foul evening indeed, but an evening in which Carlton would triumph in terrific style.

While Manchester United were beating Barcelona and catching the eye in Carlton’s clubhouse sports bar, Carlton Town reserves were wrapping up the title against a willing but limited Kimberley side. Hatricks for Chris Newbold and Phil Bignall and braces for Marquin Smith and Simon Wilkinson did the damage in an outstanding 11-0 win, excellent youngster Terry Hawkridge got the other goal and Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks and Chairman Mick Garton both went into the dressing room and popped a cork or two and congratulated George, Frank and the lads who have done so well this season.

Ron Walker would have been proud of them. Rest in peace Ron, this ones for you!!

BROOKBANKS STAYING! ALL THE REACTION & SHELTON CONFIRMS HE'S STAYING TOO

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton admitted that it would have been a gigantic blow for the club if Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks had departed for neighbours Hucknall Town.

“I’ve been aware of the speculation for the last couple of weeks and our secretary Paul Shelton emailed me on Friday expressing his concern and the need to sit down with the manager as a matter of urgency.

“I’d seen the Hucknall Dispatch and also received a number of phone calls which had only increased speculation.

“We had a quick drink following the final game of the season against Belper and agreed to meet on the Monday afternoon at a neutral venue to discuss a number of issues.

“After those talks, I can confirm that Tommy Brookbanks has committed his future to Carlton Town FC.

“It’s wonderful news for the club and our supporters.

“Replacing him would have been the hardest task I’ve ever had to undertake in football, I realise there may come a day when that happens but that is unlikely to come anytime soon.

“He indicated his heart and mind were with the club and that he has more promotions up his sleeve.

“He needed to be sure he had my full backing and wanted the speculation cleared up quickly.

“I think his statement, which he has already given to this website makes it quite clear.”

When asked if he had anyone in mind to replace Brookbanks, Garton admitted “No, we had not even contemplated that stage. “George Hulley, our Reserve Manager whom I rate very highly would obviously have come into the frame but that’s all hypothetical now so I’d rather not go there any further than that.

“What I will say is that if Tommy had wanted the job and gone for an interview, he would have flown through it and seen off any other contenders but thankfully that’s not to be.”

Carlton committee spokesman Mark Steggles said “I’m sure I speak for the while board when I say we are absolutely delighted he is staying.

“I genuinely believe the grass is greener here and that he has made the right decision.”

Brookbanks spoke with Steggles shortly after events had unfolded. “He was clear in his mind” said Steggles.

“We are looking forward to continuing to work with him.

“His loyalty is remarkable and an example to everyone.” concluded Steggles.

Carlton were further boosted by the news that secretary Paul Shelton is staying with the club after initially indicating he would be stepping down at the end of the season.

It was manager Tommy Brookbanks who was one of the burning forces which changed Paul’s mind. “I am personally delighted although not surprised, it would have been disappointing for me having decided to carry on and then seen Tom leave at the same time.” said Shelton.

Executive Director Vaughan Williams also praised Brookbanks’ decision and said he had “shown tremendous loyalty to the club.”

Speaking for the players, highly rated tough tackling defender Dominic Thomas said “To turn down the chance of an interview at a club like Hucknall Town goes to show his loyalty and his belief in the players.

“I am delighted he is staying, hopefully we can repay the faith with promotion and Senior Cup success.” concluded Thomas.

BIG NEWS STORY - WEBSITE EXCLUSIVE

Hucknall interest confirmed but Brookbanks is staying!

The Carlton Town website can exclusively reveal that following intense rumours and press speculation, Hucknall Town have invited Carlton Town Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks for an interview with a view to him taking over the Hucknall Town managers post following the dismissal of David Lloyd but after a top level one to one meeting with Carlton Chairman Mick Garton at a Nottinghamshire hotel, Brookbanks has committed his future to Carlton Town and will lead the team into their second season in the Unibond league.

In an exclusive interview with this website, Brookbanks revealed “I was honoured and flattered to be offered the opportunity of an interview for a post at Hucknall” but after talks with Chairman Mick Garton he decided to “stay and finish the job” he had started at Carlton.

“I honestly believe we can surpass Hucknall, I work alongside an excellent Chairman and I’m still driven and motivated by the challenges at Carlton Town.

“I have an excellent bunch of players, a cracking youth set up and I plan to engage further with the junior set up during the summer and throughout next season and I have further ideas how we can help and develop that relationship and support each other going forward.

“I am fully committed to mounting a promotion push next season and taking this club into the Unibond Premier Division.

“Yes, we are a small club but sometimes small clubs can pass by the big clubs, we have done that before and I believe we can continue to do so again and I believe the sky is the limit for this club.

“The ground has passed its grading and the Chairman has assured me that any changes needed at Premiership level will be delivered which is good enough for me.

“We have agreed a plan going forward that I am excited about and committed to, I wish Hucknall all the best and hope they make the right appointment but my future lies at Carlton Town and I am happy and delighted to make this absolutely clear and put all the speculation to bed and start to concentrate my efforts on getting Carlton prepared for next season.”

New Academy Director Darryl Claypole was delighted that Brookbanks is staying “Tommy and Mick are two of the main reasons I came back to the club and it would have been a huge blow to have lost Tommy.

“I am delighted he and the Chairman have sat down and that Tommy has committed himself to the club.

“Speculation has been intense in recent days and it is important for the clubs future stability that Tommy has put this statement out.

“On a personal note, I am absolutely buzzing at the moment, with hindsight I should never have left the club but hindsight is a fine thing and I am really looking forward to my future with the club, it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.” concluded Claypole.

Club Chairman Mick Garton is expected to make a statement on behalf of the club in due course, read it here first!

CLUB COMFIRMS SHOP RUMOUR

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton has confirmed that the club will be opening a club shop for the 2008/09 Unibond season and the first ever Carlton Town merchandise will be going on sale next season.

“Although plans are at an early stage, I can confirm that the shop will be part of the new B&K building which was opened by Kenny Burns last summer.

“We are looking at the possibility of selling track suits, replica kits, scarves, t-shirts etc as well as pennants, badges and official club mugs.

“Although we are in the early stages of putting this together, it was always going to be a priority once the season was over.

“We have already agreed the location with the groundsman and work should hopefully start soon with a view to an official launch in July, details of which I hope to announce in due course.

“I believe we were the only club in the Unibond league not to have a shop or our own official merchandise and given the pace of the clubs climb up the pyramid, it was something I could not get into place for last season but am determined to do so for next season.

“It should prove a great opportunity for our supporters and indeed many of the ground hoppers who have asked me for items this season to pick up some collectables and finally be able to wear the club colours.

“It is another historic step for the club and I am looking forward to announcing further details as soon as we have it all finalised.” Concluded the Chairman.

CHAIRMEN UNITE TO UNVEIL NEW KIT

Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton teamed up with Junior Chairman Raymond Gayne to unveil the junior sections excellent new kit which has been sponsored by Specsavers.

Both Chairmen were at Stoke Lane as the Coopers Arms and Ashworth played out the Amateur Alliance Junior Cup Final at the Bill Stokeld Stadium and Raymond Gayne admitted to being delighted with the sponsorship deal and the new kit.

“We are extremely happy with the new kit, the design and colours are terrific.

“All the teams next season will really look the part.

“Specsavers have been so generous in supporting the club and we are very grateful to them.

“The deal over three years will support and help all the boys in each team” said Ray.

Senior Chairman Mick Garton added his support “I’m delighted for Ray and the junior section.

“The new yellow and blue kit looks great and I’m sure the teams will be made up with it and the new away kit.

“Specsavers have done them proud, make no mistake about that” concluded Garton.

SILVER FOX: THE BIG INTERVIEW

A quaint Nottinghamshire Ropewalk bar called the Olive Tree was the setting, long coat, large class of pinot grigio in hand, a somewhat shorter haircut these days and the face was flushed, perhaps a little fuller than one remembers, certainly rosy and certainly bright, the Silver Fox is coming home and he couldn’t be more excited.

Speaking exclusively to the Carlton Town website, Darryl Claypole gave his first interview since Tommy Brookbanks announced he was bringing him back to take over the clubs Academy set up next season.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be back, I feel as though I am coming home” said Claypole.

“When Tommy offered me the chance to come back, I thought about it for no more than five seconds.

“I am back to stay and this will be my last job in football.”

It was put to Darryl that when he left both the Chairman and Head Coach were disappointed he has left with three months of the season left to go.

“I admit it wasn’t ideal but I saw the opportunity at Calverton to do another Carlton as it were and do it from the top as manager of the first team.

“If I waited until the preseason that opportunity would have passed me by and I think the Chairman understands that but it didn’t work out as I would have hoped.

“Although, I believe we laid some good foundations and played some good football at Calverton, Carlton have continued to progress since I left and the ground and the team are a credit to the Chairman and Tommy and everybody at the club.

“I admit I didn’t think the club would be able to compete financially with the facilities and funds needed to operate at Unibond level and I told the Chairman this before I left but the infrastructure he has put in place, particularly with the five a side courts is superb and I’m delighted to have been proved wrong.

“My priority now is to achieve excellence within the Academy, I’m so proud when I see the likes of Grant Brindley and Dean Gent in our first team and the likes of Anthony Howell at Eastwood who played in our Academy and now Simon Wilkinson and Ricky Gardener are coming through and knocking on the first team door.

“The likes of David Wardle and Drew Hatton also played a part as the team climbed the pyramid and although they have moved on, they all made a contribution.

“Our Academy has to work, the club does not have the money to make big signings so we must bring youngsters through and if they are good enough, I know Tommy will give them the chance.

“We will also become a touring club again, it’s something I have always believed in and I will be working to reintroduce the club tour in 2009.”

Claypole’s first opportunity to look at the younger players is coming via the five a side leagues running at the club.

“We have younger players competing in the Monday night Championship and the older players in the Premiership, it will give me the chance to have a look and analyse what we have to use and the fantastic facilities and a chance for me to bring in some new players during the course of the summer.

“We are also hoping for a good run in the FA Youth Cup, that’s important for the club” continued Claypole.

When asked if he had missed the involvement since leaving Calverton, he replied:

“Of course, I did help out at Blidworth Welfare briefly and they were lovely people, really top people but yes the batteries are recharged and I’m raring to go.

“I realise the bar has been increased and I’ve now got to help produce players for Unibond standard.”

The glass was empty, the talking had stopped, it was time for a refill and to put down the pen. This man could talk enough to fill five websites but it was all good and he is charming company and you can’t help but be sucked into the enthusiasm he portrays.

It’s an enthusiasm which will take him into this, his final chapter.

The Silver Fox is back, long live the Silver Fox, oh good, more pinot grogio has arrived, he continues but I’m not re picking up the pen, I’m going to have a drink with him instead, it’s been a long time. Darryl Claypole was talking to Murray Hayes.

WILKINSON DOUBLE DOES IT FOR CARLTON!

Two goals from young star Simon Wilkinson gave Carlton Town Reserves a superb Cup Final win against an excellent but physical Pinxton side at Blidworth.

Pinxton started the stronger and scored a fine opener that left Carlton on the back foot for large parts of the first half but when Wilkinson pulled them level just before the interval, it gave them momentum going into the second half and they upped the anti.

Ricky Gardener put Carlton ahead with a fine free kick before Wilkinson scored his second goal of the night with a fine finish to seal victory for Carlton.

Carlton Town head coach Tommy Brookbanks praised coach George Hulley “His tactics were spot on” said Brookbanks.

“All 14 players were a credit to the club, I was particularly impressed with Michael Leslie and Danny Hayes who kept their excellent number 9 quiet.

“It was a good all round team performance from veteran Ian White who was superb right through to the classy Wilkinson who’s finishing was top draw.

“I was delighted with the turnout from the club in general.” concluded Brookbanks.

Two men who did miss the final were Chairman Mick Garton and groundsman Bob.

“We turned up at our ground to ensure all was in order for the Minor Cup Final which was taking place but were staggered to find there was a crowd double what we expected.

”While Bob had to sort out the car park, I spent the whole night on the bar serving customers instead of watching the final.

“I’m obviously delighted the bar was busy but gutted to have missed the final but I had to do what was right for the club despite meaning I would miss the game.” said Garton.

“That’s the way things work here, we all have to muck in and there is no way the girls could have been left, we will learn from that.

“I’m delighted for George and Frank, they have maintained our record of winning something every season.” concluded Garton.

“Hopefully they can go on and do the treble” added Brookbanks and he immediately called Simon Wilkinson up to the first team squad.

FUND TARGET REACHED AS ADDISON & WIGNALL TAKE US BACK IN TIME

Nottingham Forest 60’s heroes Colin Addison and Frank Wignall took the clubs supporters, players and sponsors on a trip down memory lane as they recalled details and stories of their illustrious careers both as players and managers at Carlton Town’s clubhouse sports bar.

Autograph hunters were at the clubs main gates awaiting the appearance of the men who would hopefully help take Carlton Town’s training facilities fund up to the required amount to meet the coaching staffs requirements for the 2008/09 season and so it was to be.

Tommy Brookbanks, his coaches and players turned out in force and everyone chipped in to support the various raffles and games to raise money for the fund.

Wignall told of this time at Everton and Forest and his time in management while Addison talked of his memorable Hereford days and their fantastic FA Cup run and his time with Ron Atkinson in England and in Spain.

His stories towards the end of the evening when he put on his excellent Spanish accent went down a treat.

Club physio Martin Jephson teamed up with Chairman Mick Garton to present the evening and Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks will be delighted the money is now in place to bring about the required improvements thanks to this event and last years Christmas luncheon with Bruce Grobbelaar.

LAST TO RETURN FOR FRETTINGHAM TRIBUTE GAME

Carlton Town’s major sponsors MSR Newsgroup are to play the final match of the season on Carlton’s main pitch as a tribute to long serving shop manager Steve Frettingham who is off work suffering with cancer.

‘Fret’ as he is affectionately known has also had a stroke and is suffering angina and has gone from a healthy, hardworking member of the MSR workforce to a very ill man and the company will turn out in force for this one off game which will raise money for Fret.

Carlton Town Chairman and MSR’s Managing Director Mick Garton said “The response has been fantastic from all of the staff I have spoken to so far and people are saying they will either play or just come and watch.”

“It’s a thank you really for the commitment Steve given the company over many years and he has told me he and his family will attend the game and afternoon on Sunday 18th May.

“We were thinking of what we could do and Director Dave Fryer came up with this excellent idea, his son Martin will referee the game.

“Our team will be made of MSR workers and players who have represented the MSR football team over the last few years, even my old mate Greg Last who last played for us some 13 years ago has agreed to play half the game in goal.

“All the players will pay £10 to play from our side and a team from the Natwest Bank Group who have agreed to take us on and support this important day.”

Gary Boon from the Natwest group will be organising the Natwest team which is fitting as Gary used to work for MSR Newsgroup.

The game is expected to kick off at 2pm and further details will appear on this website nearer the time.

CARLTON TOWN 1 - 1 EASTWOOD TOWN

NOTTS SENIOR CUP SEMI FINAL  -  ATT: 185

EASTWOOD TOWN WON 5-4 ON PENALTIES

In a performance which Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton described as ‘immense’ Carlton Town will be left shaking their heads wondering how Eastwood and not them will be competing in this years final at Meadow Lane.

After an early burst from Eastwood, Carlton upped the tempo and Bignall was denied by goal line clearances on two occasions.

Carlton thought they had won a penalty when an Eastwood player seemed to have handled on the line and they appealed to a man but unfortunately for Carlton the referee and his assistant remained unmoved.

A watching referee in the crowd commented that if the ref had given it, he would also have had to send the player off, fortunately for Eastwood he didn’t and they continued to ride their luck with their excellent keeper and the woodwork keeping Carlton at bay.

Bercherini too made an excellent save in the Carlton goal but a miss kick by Brindley was to cost Carlton dear and Matt Rhead picked up the loose ball and drilled an excellent finish into the far bottom corner to give Eastwood a half time 1-0 lead.

Things were to get worse for Carlton as the players left the pitch.

There was an altercation involving two players, one from each side but as the players entered the tunnel things seemed to have calmed but minutes later the referee came into the Carlton dressing room and showed a red card to Phil Bignall as Tommy Brookbanks was giving his half time team talk.

It is understood the referee had already entered the Eastwood dressing room and issued a yellow card to Gary Breach.

Carlton 1-0 down and a man down responded with an outstanding second half display against their Premiership neighbours.

Brookbanks left two up front and the middle three of Martin Ball, Marquin Smith and Dean Gent fought furiously for every ball and drove forward at every opportunity.

Marquin Smith’s excellent effort hit the crossbar but minutes later his header was turned into the net by Jay Smedley which gave Carlton an equaliser.

Carlton continued to press, Gent hit the post, another header was cleared off the line and McCarthy saved superbly from Chaplin.

Eastwood had their moments and also hit the crossbar before Darrell Thomas went close not for the first time in the evening and Chaplin’s fine run ended with his shot going inches wide.

Extra time came and again Carlton had chances to win it but they also defended bravely as Eastwood piled forward in the hope of clinching a winner themselves.

It was not to be and the dreaded penalties followed and once again Eastwood proved the masters at this vital art and component of the modern game and Carlton slipped up once and once was enough for Eastwood.

It was Steve Chaplin who suffered the dreaded Stuart Pearce, Gareth Southgate, David Batty moment as his shot crashed against the bar; it was the moment Carlton’s hopes drained away.

Carlton had dominated, they had done so for the most part with ten men but the bottom line is they had not put the ball in the net and that, at the end of the day is the name of the game.

When they didn’t get the handball decision, maybe one felt it wasn’t going to be Carlton’s night but credit to Eastwood, when the penalty pressure was on they kept their nerve and you can’t argue with five out of five.

“Maybe I’m just a promotion Manager” said Carlton Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks.

“I couldn’t have prepared better or asked for any more from the lads tonight, they were outstanding but the bottom line is we have missed out on a cup final again; maybe it’s not meant to be.

“We will have a drink or two at the Colin Addison night on Friday and regroup but right now this feels like a kick in the teeth, we certainly didn’t deserve to lose, not by a million miles.”

But, that after all is football and the final word fell to Carlton Chairman Mick Garton who said “Maybe last season, we got one or two breaks, we haven’t really had that this season and certainly not in this game so I suppose you could argue over time things remain even although it certainly doesn’t fell like that at the moment.

“I thought our performance tonight was immense but penalty shoot outs are part of the game nowadays and the Eastwood boys delivered when it mattered so credit to them and a big thank you to everyone from the Junior section and our supporters who turned out in numbers tonight along with quite a few ex players.

“I was proud of our team and gutted for them and equally for Tommy and the coaching staff but I’m sure a Cup will come our way one day.

“Maybe the reserves can lend a helping hand over the next week or two by winning one, we will see.” concluded Garton.

DRAMATIC RETURN OF THE SILVER FOX!

Carlton Town Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks has reappointed Darryl ‘Silver Fox’ Claypole to his coaching staff making him Academy Director in a surprise move.

Claypole, formerly head of Carlton’s Academy has also managed the reserve side and even the first team at Carlton when Brookbanks has been away and was a key component of Brookbanks’ staff but when he left some two years ago to take on the Calverton first team job, it seemed unlikely he would make a comeback at Stoke Lane but Brookbanks believes he is “the best available man to coach Carlton’s Academy youngsters.

“He’s had a go at going back into senior management and hopefully got that bug out of his system.

“We need to restructure in one or two areas following our promotion to the Unibond league last season and our youth policy is absolutely crucial to us and I believe Darryl is the best man to take this forward."

Claypole’s appointment follows the resignation of Stefan Benbow who has ran the Academy this season.

In an exclusive statement to the Carlton Town website Benbow said:

“After working within the Carlton Town academy set up as manager for a season in the East Midlands Academy League, I now feel it is time to move on to other coaching opportunities, as I am gearing up for the level 3 coaching licence in May which will undoubtedly take up a lot of my time throughout 2008.

“My season with the Under 19’s has been a rollercoaster ride with many ups and downs. We have had 5 boys move up the ranks from the academy to sign and play for the reserves team, which is extremely positive and I hope these boys go on to gain regular places in the reserves team next year.

“We’ve had 4 of the Under 16’s boys come up the ranks and sign for the Academy towards the end of our season, who all show great promise. The Academy side have showed great character this year going straight from an Under 16’s league to an Under 19’s, this is a great leap and it has moulded the boys into stronger players on the pitch. I am absolutely sure that under Darryl’s guidance they will be on top form for the 2008/09 season.

“Lastly, I would like to thank John Benbow for being an amazing sidekick throughout this year, sorting out everything from secretarial issues to taking the gate receipts on a match day. Thanks again.

“I’d like to thank Tommy Brookbanks for all his guidance, we both agreed on the biggest thing I could takeaway this year, was experience. And Mick Garton, for giving me the opportunity to step up to the role.

“I shall still be around the club in the future, to do some pre-season coaching with the Under 19’s Academy ready for the UEFA B Licence.

“All the best to everyone involved at Carlton Town Football Club.”

Stefan Benbow2006 FA Grassroots Coach of the Year.

It is understood Claypole intends to involve next seasons Under 17’s manager Darren Chapman as he attempts to bring youngsters through to the reserves and first team set up and as well as involving Benbow on the coaching front, Kev Randall and Aidy Brown will also return to the club two years after taking the clubs youngsters through to cup glory at the City Ground.

We hope to bring you an exclusive interview with Darryl Claypole very soon as we follow this breaking story at the club.

LARRY PROVES A HUGE HIT AT MSR

Former Nottingham Forest double winning European cup legend Larry Lloyd turned up a few minutes late for his book signing at Carlton’s main sponsors MSR Newsgroup’s Front Street, Arnold store and found customers queuing out of the door waiting for the big man.

He quickly apologised and said he was late as he had often been in his career with tackles with brought laughter from the waiting public.

He then went on to sign numerous memorabilia for customers as well as 200 copies of his excellent autobiography ‘Hard man, hard game.”

Close on half those copies were sold immediately in what proved an excellent coup for the newsagents chain.

Remaining copies have gone on sale throughout other MSR stores.

Lloyd was delighted with the turnout and said how it still amazed him how loyal Forest fans had remained despite the fact they are now plying their trade in league one.

He also spoke about the two great managers he played under Bill Shankly and Brian Clough and said that in many ways “They were similar, keeping the game simple and letting each man know his responsibilities to the team.”

It was certainly a winning formula although Lloyd believes a appointing an Italian coach as England manager is not the way forward “English or British for me” said Lloyd.

Of that he was clear and It was also clear that the people of Nottingham still have an immense soft spot for a true Forest legend; it was nice to have him back.

NIGHT OF THRILLERS & TROPHIES AT STOKE LANE

The Lucozade Sport Monday night five a side league finally drew to a close with some cracking games played in the usual excellent spirit and with a fine turnout for the presentation as well, it proved a fitting end to the season.

Trent FM Started in blazing style giving Metz’s Misfits a real run for their money.

When Dominic Moyes is on it, so inevitably are Trent and Dom was on fire.

A wonder toe punt, two games for Karl Woods and one for Mick Moss help give Trent FM a 4-4 draw, Metz’s left foot screamer the highlight for Misfits, Dom’s boys also hit the woodwork more than once.

Brookland Boys finished as they had started and continued and their 6-0 win over Reprobates ensured they stayed unbeaten throughout the league campaign.

A hat-trick for John Hickling and a goal a piece for Ashley, Dan Moorcroft and Ryan Marsh did the job for Aidy’s boys.

Brian Shepard’s Kings United finished the winter season in some style beating the highly rated Titco 9-5.

James 4, Bano 3 and Tate and Diszey with a goal a piece were on the score sheet while Kowski, Stu, Wayne, Woody and Kul replied for Titco.

Jenny’s Boys pipped Kapital One in another thriller 3-2, Aaron Knight with a brace and Steve Scott scored for Jenny while Mark Sweet and John Neville got Kapital One’s replies.

Bear IT finished well just pipping Easy Tigers 3-2 while the Killer Bees played out a thrilling 5-5 draw with Gedlingberg, Nathan with 2, Donald Duck, Dom and Karl scored the Bees goals.

Referee Andy Benner commented on “what a cracking nights football it had been.”

Senior referee and tournament chief Mark Steggles joined Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton for the presentation and a good number of teams stayed to applaud the winners and enjoy some of Jenny Doors’ fine food.

For the record, there were more trophies for Kapital One (runners up in the Christmas plate) and Titco (Christmas plate winners), Misfits (Christmas cup runners up) and Killer Bees (Christmas cup winners) and the Bees made it a double picking up the league runners up trophy.

Final applause of the night went deservedly to Aidy Moorcroft and the Brookland Boys who were league champions by some distance.

They have laid down their marker, can they be pipped in the summer? It all starts again next Monday with two divisions, we will see!

NOW CARLTON LAND THE LADIES FINAL

Mick Kilbee of the Notts FA has announced that this year’s Women’s County Cup Final will take place at Carlton’s Bill Stokeld Stadium on Sunday 11th May with a 3pm kick off.

Carlton Town were delighted to have been awarded the final for only the second time in the clubs history.

It’s one of the bigger finals in the calendar and I remember we hosted it a few years ago when Nottingham Forest played Chaffoteaux.

It was a cracking game and a decent crowd but our ground has come on in leaps and bounds since then so hopefully, fans will enjoy the Carlton Town facilities and experience.

Unfortunately, our ladies side had to move away due to the Gedling relief road being constructed leaving us with just one pitch but I am aware how far ladies football has come on.

The crowd for the ladies FA Cup final at Forest last season was a record and proves the point.

Carlton have been awarded a series of finals by the various sporting bodies reflecting their increased standing in the game locally and means the Unibond clubs backroom staff will have a busy few weeks as the current season draws to a close.

A full breakdown of finals and events can be seen on this website in the forthcoming events section.

CARLTON TEAM UP WITH NOTTS COUNTY FOR FINAL ‘SPORT ACTS’ DINNER

Paul Lowe from Paul Lowe Associates ltd has announced that this will be the final year of the charity ‘Sport Acts’ which he has championed and ran over the last five years.

The charity has raised and given out sporting grants amounting to thousands of pounds over those years and Carlton Town have been one of the local sporting clubs to benefit.

The charity sponsored Carlton’s academy in its infancy to help it get off the ground and Carlton, along with Notts County will be teaming up with the charity for its farewell dinner at Meadow Lane on Thursday 9th October.

The guest speaker will be Phil Stant, former professional footballer and bomb disposal expert who will no doubt have some interesting stories to tell.

Tables of 10 are £400 and the event will be compared by Sport Acts president Colin Slater and sponsored by Gardman.

A three course meal will be included and interested parties can book tables through this website by emailing us or by telephoning 0115 958 1735 during office hours.

LOCAL BOYS TAKE THE HONOURS AS FOREST ASCEND ON STOKE LANE

Nottingham Forest supporters from all parts of the globe arrived at Carlton Town’s Stoke Lane ground for their annual five a side football tournament.

It was the first time the event had been held at Carlton Town and Carlton’s tournament chief Mark Steggles was delighted with the way the event went. “No bookings, no sending offs, a tournament played in the right spirit from start to finish.

“They were an absolute credit to Nottingham Forest.” said Steggles.

In between games, everyone was able to watch Grand Slam Sunday in the clubhouse sports bar on Carlton’s five screens and it was there that Forest’s Belgium supporters club set the pace by warming up with a pint of Guinness or two while the Irish branch turned up a little late somewhat worse for wear following a night enjoying Nottingham’s excellent nightlife, so ideal preparation then

The West Yorkshire boys however turned up early and got in some good preparation.

They entered two teams as did the Thames Valley branch and with two teams also entering from Nottingham, South Notts and Gedling, the scene was set for an exciting afternoons football.

While the Belgium boys were struggling to overcome the language barrier with referee Tim Bee, South Notts were making waves on pitch two winning all of their games without conceding a goal.

The Irish too were making early impressions and they too reached the semi finals.

On pitch one, Belgium were improving as the tournament rolled on and after beating Thames Valley B 3-1 they had an outside chance of making the semis but it was not to be and it was the AFC Yorkshire A branch who went through along with Gedling who won all three games scoring eleven goals in the process.

The Irish lads came apart in the semis as Gedling continued their good form with the Irish going down 4-1 and South Notts made it a Nottinghamshire double in the final beating AFC Yorkshire A 5-0 in their semi final.

The final then was between two Nottinghamshire sides and it was South Notts who came out on top with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Gedling.

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton, himself a huge Forest fan got the event underway and was impressed with the turnout and delighted to be given the chance to stage this prestigious competition. “It was a cracking day with some cracking people.” enthused Garton.

“We were just glad the snow stayed away, particularly after people had travelled so far to take part and were honoured to stage the competition and hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.”

Forest supporters club spokesperson Joan Bakewell praised the Carlton staff “I would like to thank everyone at Carlton for making us so welcome and looking after us so well.

"The feedback I have had has all been positive and we will certainly be rebooking the event at Carlton next year.”

There was also unequivocal praise for Forest supporters from Carlton Town bar manager Jenny Doors “The Nottingham Forest supporters were a credit to their club throughout the whole competition and afterwards in the bar.

“They were respectful, courteous and seemed to really enjoy the day, it was a pleasure to have them here and we will certainly be delighted to welcome them back next year.” concluded Doors.

Tournament chief Mark Steggles expressed his delight at the decision “On behalf of the club I would like to thank KP McVities for returning this event at our increasingly popular venue.

“I hope Chris ‘Nutty’ Chaplin will be returning to defend his title.

CARLTON GET UNIBOND FAIR PLAY AWARD

Promotion Confirmed

Carlton Town were awarded the Unibond league February fair play award prior to their home clash with Stocksbridge.

Assistant Manager Dave Nairn himself a tough tackling midfielder in his day was delighted with the award.

”It was well deserved” said Nairn.

“We have a code of conduct with regard to dissent and players are hit in the pocket if they don’t comply.

“You are always going to pick up a few cards for tackles but we do try and play in the right way.

“To be fair, the standard of refereeing of late has helped as it has been very good “Any award is nice and the whisky will be stored for a future celebration.” concluded Nairn.

RMT COMING TO STOKE LANE

Carlton Town have received another boost with another high profile booking for their five a side complex this summer.

The Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) are holding their annual conference in Nottingham on Sunday 22nd June and prior to that on the Saturday, they are having a seven a side afternoon at Stoke Lane.

Chairman Mick Garton dealt with the booking personally, he said “A booking is a booking at the end of the day but the calibre of organisations we are attracting down here are fantastic and I’m delighted with the progress myself and Mark Steggles are making with these facilities.

“It will be an absolute delight to welcome Bob Crowe and his people to our club and we thoroughly hope they enjoy the afternoon with us.

“This booking coming on the back of the Nottingham Forest one is great news for the club and we hope to secure a few more over the course of the summer to keep us ticking over.” added Garton.

CARLTON WISH SCOTT A SPEEDY RECOVERY

Carlton Town were stunned to learn that club photographer Tim Scott is seriously ill in hospital following a terrible accident.

Tim was crossing the road at traffic lights outside the Falcon Inn on Canning Circus heading towards his Ropewalk home when he was in collision with a Trent Barton bus.

He has suffered a broken back and pelvis but the club understands he was lucky to have survived with his life.

Tim Scott has been involved with Carlton over the last few years and covers all their major sporting dinners and big events at the ground and has supplied a number of pictures for the Evening Post and Football Post over the last few years as Carlton have climbed the football pyramid.

Carlton Chairman Mick Garton commented he was stunned to take a call from Evening Post reporter Ray Yeomans who notified him of Scott’s plight and has since spoken with Tim from his hospital bed.

Garton went on to say “Tim has been a great asset to the club, he’s always only been a phone call away when we’ve needed to do a photo call and he has covered some of the most memorable days in the clubs history.

“We were stunned to learn of the accident and wish him a speedy and full recovery and look forward to seeing him at Stoke Lane again, hopefully in the not too distant future.”

Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks, whose testimonial dinner Tim Scott recently covered was also shocked to hear the news and added “Tim’s a great photographer and a good friend to the club and on behalf of my family and the players, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him taking some of his superb snaps again soon.”

CARLTON SUPPORT BALLS TO POVERTY

Carlton Town reserve goalkeeper Daniel James and Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks organised a whip round during Carlton’s encounter with Goole for the Balls to Poverty charity which has been well publicised recently with Nottingham Forest getting heavily involved.

The money is going to buy footballs for South African kids stuck in poverty and to provide much needed opportunities for them.

The Carlton players, coaches and staff donated £90 and local MP Vernon Coaker and Son topped that up to £100 which was well appreciated by Brookbanks who spoke in the clubhouse after the game.

He passed on the collected money to Daniel and praised the Carlton youngster for his efforts in raising money for “a much worthwhile and positive cause.”

SMITH ANNOUNCES GOLF DAY

Carlton Town’s club President Roger Smith has announced the clubs annual golf day will again take place at Oakmere Park Golf Club on Friday 18th July.

Smith said “After last years hugely successful day at Oakmere Park and generous support from the Director of Golf Darryl StJon Jones, I have decided that we will be holding this years tournament at this prestigious club once again.

“I would urge supporters, sponsors and players to support the club and get involved with what is one of the most important dates in the clubs calendar.”

The entry fee for a team of 4 is being held at last years price of £160.

Smith continued “It’s a team event, Stableford with the best 2 from 4 with prizes for first, second and third places as well as nearest the pin on all par three and nearest the line.

“Bacon cobs and coffee will also be served on arrival as well as a two course meal on completion, it promises to be another cracking event.” concluded Smith.

Teams can register by emailing Carlton Town at info@carltontownfc.co.uk or by telephoning 0115 9581735 during office hours or 0115 9402531 during weekday evenings.

NEONATAL PRAISE FOR CARLTON TOWN

Sheila Dixon of the Nottingham Neonatal Service Trust has written to Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton thanking the club for it’s “very generous and extremely thoughtful donation raised at the charity match at your football ground in conjunction with Trent FM”.

The money will be put towards vital equipment needed to help babies and families that come on the unit.

Sheila went on to say “The trust is a voluntary organisation which is supported by many of our medical team who work out of hours to enable it to function and it is always lovely to receive such appreciation such as yours.”

Chairman Mick Garton responded “It was a lovely letter and a fantastic night made possible by not only ourselves but the great team at Trent FM led by excellent mid morning presenter Mark Dennison and the legends that are Jo & Twiggy.

“We were delighted to help and hope the money raised helps to make a difference.” Concluded Garton.

Tribute's Pour in for Ron Walker

Carlton Town were stunned to learn of the death of Reserve Coach Ron Walker who sadly passed away in hospital on Wednesday.

Ron had run the reserves with George Hulley and Frank Corrigan for the last two years and had worked side by side with Hulley for many years in local football.

Hulley is understood to be absolutely devastated by his close friends death.

Tributes were led by Carlton Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks who said “Ron was a lifelong servant to football, I have known him over 20 years, he was my manager at Players before joining up with George Hulley and they became very close friends.

“He took great pride in the development of young talent and was delighted with the youngsters he was working with at Carlton.

“He will be greatly missed by myself and everyone at Carlton and we will hold a minutes silence before Saturday’s game against Gresley to pay our respects to a great football man.”

Chairman Mick Garton added “Ron had a habit of cutting to the chase and making commonsense of some difficult situations and I had great respect for him.

“His enthusiasm was immense and as well as the personal loss felt by his family, colleagues and close friends, it is also a loss to football, he gave so much over so many years to Nottinghamshire football.” Concluded Garton.

Experienced Carlton player Derek Wilkinson had seen first hand the impact Ron had on the clubs younger players. “The young players loved Ron to bits, he was very supportive and encouraging towards them and they looked up to him.

“He was a complete and utter gentleman and a pleasure to work with.” Said Wilkinson.

Carlton youngster Ricky Gardener echoed Wilkinson’s thoughts “He was so highly respected, we all looked up to him, he kept telling us how good we were, he said we were the best reserve side in the country, he really helped us believe in ourselves, I was talking to him on Saturday, it is a total shock, we will really miss him.” Concluded the stunned Carlton youngster.

Garton to bring back the Carlton Cup!

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton has announced that he will be bringing back the previously very popular Carlton Cup competition all be it with a new seven a side format on the clubs all weather pitch which can be used as either two five a side pitches or a 7/8 a side pitch

Matches will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights during the summer with the competition set to start in May and finish at the beginning of August prior to the start of the new eleven a side season.

In an exclusive interview with the clubs website the Chairman explained: “We have several ideas on the best games and other factors will depend on the response we get. The Carlton Cup was extremely popular and ran for many years".

“I will actively seek a sponsor in the coming weeks and I would like to stress the competition is not exclusive to Carlton based sides. Anyone, providing they have not been banned from other leagues are welcome to come and take part".

“There is a need for a good seven a side competition to be held on an annual basis in the Nottingham area and we have the facilities, infrastructure and referees to put this together".

“At this stage, I am looking for teams to commit to the principal and we will move forward from there but I’m very excited about the idea and believe we can not just make this work, but make it an annual summer event".

“Interested teams can email us at info@carltontownfc.co.uk or telephone 0115 9581735 during the daytime on weekdays or 0115 9402531 during weekday evenings”.

JUNIORS SECURE MAJOR SPONSORSHIP DEAL

The Carlton Town junior section has secured a major sponsor in a superb three year deal with Specsavers.

The Front Street, Arnold store has pledged to provide kit funding for all 13 teams as well as sponsorship for their newsletter.

The funding will help children throughout Carlton Towns youth teams from the Tiny Tacklers under 5s and under 6s right up to the under 16s who come under the junior section led by Junior Chairman Raymond Gayne who is delighted with the deal.

The sponsorship is absolutely fantastic, we rely so heavily on donations to help us carry on, I am over the moon. Said Gayne,

Claire Fletcher, Manager at Specsavers said We are really pleased to be able to support the local teams, this will hopefully provide a massive boost for the local community.

Carlton Towns senior Chairman Mick Garton was also delighted to be informed of the deal. The whole club will always be reliant on the support of businesses throughout the local area and this is fabulous news.

STONES CALLS FOR CHANGE TO RESERVE STRUCTURE

Senior Carlton Town Coach Gary Stones has called for a chance to the reserve set up in the local leagues.

Carlton Secretary Paul Shelton recently attended a meeting at the instigation of the Central Midlands football league to discuss the feasibility of setting up a new reserve division for clubs at level six or higher for the 2008/09 season and Stones believes it is vital.

Our young lads are not learning anything winning by silly amounts, they should be classed against other youngsters who are the same ability, then as managers and coaches, you can see if they are good enough to make the step up, the lads also would have a good idea where they are in terms of fitness and ability. said Stones.

I would like to see our reserves play in the Central Midlands Supreme League in which I have no doubt they would hold their own.

The youth academy league has helped players up to 19 but from 19 to 21 and the older players coming back from injury are not catered for within the current format.

Paul Shelton revealed that the Central Midlands league and the Leicestershire Senior League have permission from the FA to set up a new level six competition and both Stones and Shelton are hoping it will happen.

Its been much needed for some time. concluded Shelton.

WEBB NIGHT PROVES TO BE A SUCCESS

Ex Nottingham Forest hero Neil Webb proved a massive hit at Carlton Town FCs preseason speaker evening.

Club Chairman Mick Garton and physio Martin Jephson compared the night which was supported by sponsors, club officials and supporters and a packed clubhouse was well entertained as Webb told stories of his time under Brian Clough, Alex Ferguson and former England manager Graham Taylor.

It was great stuff and the club raised some vital funds. Webb spoke from the heart and was clearly moved when discussing the Hillsborough disaster.

His respect for Brian Clough, whom he referred to as the ‘Gaffer knew no bounds and he said it had been a pleasure and a privilege to play for him.

Webb received total respect from the audience in two sessions of chat and described Stuart Pearce as the best player he had played with, as much for his inspiration as his ability, he also said that Clough was the best manager he had played under.

He admitted to still being a Forest fan and believed there was every chance Colin Calderwood could take them up this season.

Club physio Martin Jephson was in fine form early on and has certainly brushed up his comedy routine as one or two unfortunate victims found out to their cost.

GROUND ACCESS - CLUB STATEMENT

Carlton Town have issued a statement with regard to the ongoing problems regarding access to their ground at Stoke Lane particularly after the clash with Hucknall Town.

It is important that supporters realise that they can not enter the ground down Stoke Lane form Burton Road. Although it says ‘Access Only at the bottom of Shearing Hill, this does not include access down Stoke Lane and vehicles must enter via the new bypass heading towards the Morrisons junction and then take a left onto the new road before turning into Stoke Lane form there at the next set of lights.

The club were disappointed that the police, bearing in mind it was the first game of the season and the first game with the new road layout, decided to issue tickets rather than positioning themselves further up the road and issuing warnings on this occasion and we share the frustration of supporters from both clubs who were penalised. However, we understand the frustration of residents who are fed up with the road being used as a through road.

Our view would be that the best way forward would be to put signs up at the Shearing Hill junction and at the top of Stoke Lane stating ‘No Access to Carlton Town FC, then, anyone that ignored that would indeed deserve to be penalised but the current situation in the view of the club is not clear enough with regard to the access issue bearing in mind where our entrance is located in relation to the bus plug.

We ask spectators in the interests of the club, the residents and themselves to follow the new route with immediate effect and thus avoid the situation which arised at the Hucknall game and caused much upset to everyone involved.
