BROOKBANKS SWOOPS FOR AKERS

Carlton Town Manager Tommy Brookbanks has moved to ease his striker crisis by signing Worksop youngster Steve Akers.

Akers joined Worksop in February this year, and had scored 3 goals in 17 games, but Brookbanks believes he can bring the best out of him at Carlton  " I have been keeping an eye on him for a while, he is only young and has tremendous promise, we have Danny Blair, Daryll Thomas and Simon Wilkinson all injured, and we are also missing Steve Chaplin who is away at the moment. We needed to bring a new striker in urgently or our season could of disintergrated early doors " said the Carlton Town Manager.

DEVASTATING BLOW FOR WILKINSON

Striker crisis worsens at Stoke Lane

Carlton’s youngster Simon Wilkinson who has just forced his way into the first team has suffered a sickening injury playing for the clubs academy. After appearing as a substitute in the first team’s bank holiday fixture against Rushall Olympic, Wilkinson was set to a get a full 90 minutes for the academy in preparation for Saturday’s big FA Cup clash at Chase Town.

The match against Calverton was abandoned following the injury to Wilkinson which has resulted in a broken leg. Doctors are still assessing whether there is any further damage. The injury followed a heavy tackle during the clash at Calverton in which Carlton were leading 3-1 at the time.

Academy director Darryl Clapole was devastated for the lad “it looked a nasty break” said Claypole. “It is a sickening blow for the lad and I am absolutely gutted for him, the game paled into insignificance after that incident and we pray Simon will be ok and make a full recovery.” Claypole paid tribute to Carlton’s first team physio Stuart Scott “Stuart was brilliant he knew exactly what to do and dealt with the situation superbly, it was an awful thing to happen but Stuart was fantastic and we are lucky to have him here.”

Carlton Chairman Mick Garton added “Apart from the awful injury itself, the devastating thing from Simon’s point of view is that he had worked hard all summer and finally made the break through into the first team. He played with my MSR team in the Carlton cup in June when he could have been resting but was determined to get himself into peak condition and force his way into Tommy Brookbanks first team plans. He now faces a battle of a different kind and we wish him all the very best.” Concluded the Carlton Chairman.

Forest ladies make premier league debut

Nottingham Forest ladies played their 1st game in the national premier league against Birmingham City ladies, home of Carlton Town.

A crowd of 135 were highly entertained at the Bill Stokeld staium in lovely sunshine but Forest ladies like Carlton Town the day before went down  in their first fixture.

Forest secretay Fay Glover had said at half time "that the first goal would be the winning goal" so tight was the game and she proved to be right.Unfortunately for Fay it went the way of Birmingham and despite a late rally during which  Forest hit the bar they were unable to force an equaliser.

Carlton chairman Mick Garton and Carlton's Tim Bee made a point of coming down to ensure all went well on Forest Ladies big day at Stoke Lane,it did-apart from the result of course .

The next home game is on Wednesday 27th of August when they take on Doncaster before Blackburn are the visitors on sunday 31st August.

CONTRACT FOR CARLTON YOUNGSTER

Carlton Town youngster Terry Hawkridge has been handed a one year contract with the option of a further year by manager Tommy Brookbanks and chairman Mick Garton.

Hawkridge signed on the dotted line prior to Carltons opening fixture with Retford United. The youngster who was Carltons young player of the year last season is the first player to be put on a contract since the club joined the unibond league.

Carlton chairman Mick Garton explained "we can't afford to go down the contract route generally but Terry is a special talent who lit up the club with some of his performances for both the reserves and first team last season."

"He is very young and very talented and really has the potential to go somewhere in the game and we wanted to make sure that for the first part of Terrys career that was with us and im sure he will develop his game much further this season under Tommy's guidence and with the help of the more experienced lads in the team,he's pretty fit too and was exceptional in pre season training tests,he has got a bright future"concluded the Carlton Town chairman.

DEAN SAUNDERS AT STOKE LANE

Former Welsh International Dean Saunders is to be Carlton’s guest speaker at this season’s popular Christmas Luncheon event.

“The Christmas Luncheon is one of the biggest days in the clubs calendar.” Admitted Chairman Mick Garton “We are delighted to have secured Dean Saunders as our guest speaker.

The former Derby County, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest striker enjoyed a prolific goal scoring career and is still involved at the game at the highest level.

“We are hoping for another sell out.” said Garton “Last years event with Bruce Grobberaar proved a huge success and we are hoping to follow that up with another stunner.”

Both he and his wife Pam who has looked after hospitality have reaffirmed their commitment to the club by buying season tickets for the 2008-2009 season and Jepho as he is affectionately known has pledged to be on standby in any emergencies for Manager Tommy Brookbanks.

Brookbanks has appointed Stuart Scott as Jepho’s replacement. Scott has previously worked with Carlton’s reserves and Academy.

CARLTON TO HOST LADIES PREMIER DIVISION FOOTBALL

Carlton Town are delighted to announce that they will be hosting FA National Premier Division Football this forthcoming season, following Nottingham Forest ladies decision to play their home games at the Bill Stokeld stadium.

Forest ladies visited several local clubs at the upper end of the pyramid following their promotion last season, but following a key meeting with Carton Town Chairman Mick Garton and Carlton Town Manager Tommy Brookbanks they have decide to come to Carlton.

Carlton will host key games including Nottingham Forest v Arsenal, Nottingham Forest v Leeds and Nottingham Forest v Everton to name but 3.Most games will be played on Sunday afternoons but there will be what occasional midweek games too.

It is a major coup for Carlton both in a prestigious sense and from a financial point of view.

Newly Promoted Nottingham Forest are currently preparing for their new season challenges in the F.A National Premier Division and a priority for the Club was to secure a new home ground which met the stringent F.A Ground Criteria when playing at the highest level.

The Club have been in negotiations over the last few months with several aligned men’s clubs but are now delighted to announce a newly formed alliance with Nottingham based Club Carlton Town F.C.

Carlton Town play in the Unibond 1st Division South League and finished tenth out of 18 in their first season at that level.

Carlton have made significant developments to the pitch and ground facilities over the past few years and Forest Ladies can now reap the rewards for the 2008/2009 season.

Forest Ladies Chairperson P.J Andrews says: “Carlton Town have been refreshingly enthusiastic and the whole club has a great feel to it.  Their Chairman, Mick Garton, is a huge Forest Fan and has been thoroughly accommodating even though we understand his priority is with Carlton F.C.  Their 1st team Manager, Tommy Brookbanks, is a guy who is totally passionate about his team, the club and the game of football and he is keen to help support Forest Ladies in our quest for continued improvement across all areas.  With this kind of fervour and interest it is hard to be nothing less than excited about the move for this season.

“I would like to thank Dunkirk F.C who have hosted Forest Ladies for the past three years, we know they understand the reasons for us having to move on but Steve Throssell, Club Secretary, has been very supportive in our time down at Dunkirk F.C.”

“Carlton’s facilities are an improvement for Forest Ladies and should enhance match preparation for the management team and players.  The management will have access to a meeting room, Physio room and hospitality facility whilst the players now have direct and private access to the pitch directly from the changing rooms amongst other benefits. The car park is equally equipped to host visiting teams who bring along travelling fans also and access to the ground is also on an accessible and direct route.”

Nottinghamshire F.A Women’s Girls and Football Development Officer Trevor Powell says: “It’s great news for Forest Ladies and it is good to hear that a Nottingham Men’s side is working to help in hosting the Flagship women’s club of Nottingham as they prepare to play at the highest level.”

Mick Garton, Carlton Town F.C Chairman says: “We have had several meetings with Forest Ladies and we are delighted with the opportunity to work with the club.  We genuinely look forward to welcoming Nottingham Forest Ladies to the Bill Stokeld Stadium for the 2008 - 2009 season. It is an honour to host Nottingham Forest Ladies in the FA National Premier League.”

STEGGLES THE HERO AT OAKMERE PARK

Bacon butties, strong coffee, plenty of pinot grico for Darryl and finally Carlton Town delivered the goods on their own golf day. Mark Steggles was the hero in a day which went to the wire.

The Carlton Town tournament Chief led his side to victory, but gave much of the praise to his team mates.

"We all scored points, it was a team effort" said Steggles.Derek had a great back nine, we've named him "Corey the paving Golfswing" and he delivered today.

Young Connor Murray was a credit to the club hitting 4 on hole 15, and was on the green in two and right at the death, Reserve Manager Ian White delivered with a 5 which proved to be a winner. White's finish gave Carlton 76 points,, and Taylor Maxwell also finished on 76 but Carlton triumphed with  a back 9 count of 41 while Taylor Maxwell had 38 points on their count back.

Great Northern Inns and Trent Concrete where also pegged together on 75 points, and again it was the countback system that had to seperate the sides.

Great Northern Inn's came out at 40. While Trent Concrete showed 38. So it was the Northern Inn boys who clinched 3rd spot.

Nearest the line and nearest the pin, prizes were awarded first, and Mark Steggles team again featured twice with Steggles himself and young Connor among the prizes.

Club photographer Tim Scott was on hand to take the photo' s, while Chairman Mick Garton and Academy Director Darryl Claypole made a video diary of the day which will appear in due course.

It has to be said Claypole was on fire and hammered the pinot gricio throughout the afternoon.

Massive credit must be given to president Roger Smith who organised the day, and took charge throughout the event, which raised over £1000 again for the Club. Roger, Darryl and Mick shared the presentation responsibilities, as everyone tucked into their Steak and Kidney pie.

It had been another good day for Carlton  Town, and for the first time in 4 attempts, they have won their own golf day.

Steggles, Connor,Wilko and Whitey, we are proud of you and the Club would like to thank every one who took part, and also supported the raffle, and made sponsorship contributions.

MSR,Roger Smith,Lan Systems and 6 Degrees. This really was a special day in the clubs calender.

GENT BRACE WINS IT FOR MSR AFTER GEDLING SCARE IN SEMIS

Favourites MSR Newsgroup clinched the Carlton Cup in some style with a fine 5-1 win over Brookland Boys but not before a tough intense and indeed cracking semi final game against Gedling United.

Brookland Boys had eased their way into the final with a 2-0 over Pap’s Love Machine. Pap’s started the brighter and was unlucky not to have a penalty when a Brookland player looked to have strayed into the area.

They also had the better chances but Randall in the Brookland goal was in fine form. As the game went on, Brookland upped the anti and in the second half they took control and goals for Banno and Ash gave them a hard fought victory.

Pap’s Love Machine have been a credit to the competition and can feel unlucky but Brookland Boys had topped their group and were worthy finalists.

In the second game, Gedling United put out an impressive line up against an equally impressive MSR one and what followed was a high octane game of a 7-a-side with nothing given and nothing spared in front of a decent crowd. MSR’s man of the match Martin Ball gave MSR the lead but Geldings excellent keeper was proving a formidable barrier.

Gedling United equalised through a fine Ryan Johnson solo and the teams were level going into the final period of the game. The game was on a knife edge when Martin Ball rifled home a fine finish to give MSR a 2-1 lead, which MSR then defeated well in front of the commanding figure of shaggy who too was proving as difficult as ever to beat.

Assistant grounds man Chris Chaplin had told MSR manager Mick Garton in the morning, Gedling would give them a tough game, he wasn’t wrong!

So to the final and MSR’s Dean Gent turned his game up to another level. He had a cracking game scoring twice and getting in vital interceptions at the back. His opening goal was a corker, vintage Wilkinson, classic Hickling and an exquisite turn and finish from Gent.

A John Hickling classic made it two before Genty struck again before the break. Talented veteran Ian White slotted in at the back in the 2nd period alongside the inspirational Andy May and while the impressive Ryan Marsh pulled a corker out of the bag for the Brookland Boys, the advanced and excellent Danny Cane hit a brace himself to see MSR home.

So the first ever 7-a-side Carlton Cup is done, dusted and belongs to MSR for this year at least but massive credit to all involved especially the 4 semi finalists and referees who helped make this an enthralling competition.

NEW PROGRAMME EDITOR IN TOWN

Carlton Town’s reserve player’s player of the year Ashley Winfield has been named as the club’s new programme editor for the 2008/2009 season. Winfield who works for the club’s major sponsors MSR Newsgroup has been appointed by Chairman Mick Garton following the departure of Andy King during the summer.

Garton praised King but said he was looking forward to working with Winfield.

"Andy King took the programme onto a new level last season with help of Gary Stones. So Ashley has a hard act to follow but Andy was often on the outside looking in while Ashley will be very much at the heart of the club. So I’m hoping this will prove a positive change” said Garton

Ashley Winfield admitted he was looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for me but I am looking forward to the new season and the new role as editor. As a reserve team player for Carlton I feel I have an edge on ex-editor Andy. So hopefully I can follow in Kings foot steps and prove to the Chairman that it was a good positive change.”

FORTHCOMING SEASON PRICES

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton has announced he is freezing the season ticket prices for the forthcoming Unibond campaign. Prices will remain at the 2007/2008 levels.

Garton said “We understand things are tough out there at the moment so we have decided to leave prices as they are both on season tickets and match day admission.”

KP McVITIES REVENGE FOR MSR

It was 12 months ago almost to the day when MSR had to pull out of the KP McVities 2007 final with Andy May and Simon Wilkinson sitting in the clubhouse sportsbar with ice packs on their ankles, Chappo’s Boys went on to beat Brookland Boys in the Final but 12 months on MSR got their revenge in truly dramatic style.

The two best 5 a side teams who compete regularly at Stoke Lane, MSR and Brookland Boys were drawn in the group along with Youngs of Leeds who impressed last year, Kapital one and Norfolk in Hope. In Group B Chappo’s Boy’s, Killer Bees, Smiths News, Poppelston Allen and Brickyard Boys made up the lineup.

Chappo’s Boys were to learn that despite fielding Unibond stars such as Darryl Thomas, Grant Brindley, Marquin Smith and Martin Ball they were not going to have all things their own way against regular top performing team the Killer Bees. It finished 0-0 with Killer Bees keeper Ken outstanding but Bees had their chances too and Chappo seemed happy with a point.

In Group A MSR started well beating Youngs of Leeds 4-2 with the Youngs keeper particularly impressive. Brookland Boys too started with a win 2-1 against Kapital One. In Group B Brickyard Boys hit the ground running defeating the sporting Poppleston Allen by a thumping 8-1 but did less well against Chappo’s Boys who beat them 4-2.

MSR continued to impress and Kapital One were put to the sword 10-0. Norfolk in Hope had called up the legendary Gandolph to inspire them but it was a trick too far for the 62 year old legend and his team lost all four games although he did win a prize for the afternoons golden moment when he tackled MSR’s young star John Hickling who tried unsuccessfully to meg the screen icon.

Poppleston Allen are excellent licensing solicitors but Manager James Anderson had to concede their footballing abilities are some what limited and despite putting a smile on everyone’s faces, they too were clutching a wooden spoon as they left the arena. Mixed fortunes for Kapital One who suffered unlucky injuries, winning 2 and losing 2 of their 4 games and finishing 3rd out of 5 in group A.

Smiths News in Group B gave everyone a good game but never reached the heights that were going to get them through to the serious business but Brickyard Boys continued to impress and their fine 2-0 win over the Killer Bees put them in the driving seat for 2nd place behind Chappo’s Boys and so it proved as they defeated Smiths News 3-0 to make the Semi Finals. They were up against the undefeated MSR and it proved a game too far for the Brickyard Boys as John Hickling blew them away with a high quality brace in a 3-0 win. Chappo’s Boys had Brookland Boys on the back foot in the first few minutes and Darryl Thomas inspired a comfortable Semi Final win on the opposite pitch for Chappo.

So the final that never happened last year and it proved a classic. MSR took the lead when Derek Wilkinson who turned back the years putting in a vintage performance throughout the competition gave them an early lead after good by Hickling. Chappo’s Terry Hawkridge turned up the heat with a classy brace to give Chappo’s a 2-1 lead but Hickling pulled MSR level. A controversial free kick finish which MSR believed had been taken form the wrong spot gave Chappo’s Boys a 3-2 lead before the excellent Wilkinson gave MSR a lifeline with a fine running finish 3-3 with less than 2 minutes to go. There were chances at either end in the final seconds but a hero was to emerge by way of a penalty shoot out.

Cometh the hour cometh the man.

MSR’s Shaggy had a shocker in their first game and Manager Mick Garton blamed him for both goals in MSR’s first victory but when it mattered on the big stage Shaggy delivered. He had got better as the tournament went on probably helped by the fact he played behind Gandolph in a bottom of the table clash to help senior referee Mark Steggles out as injuries came into play late in the qualifying section. He saved 2 penalties from Hawkridge and Thomas, the save from Thomas particularly outstanding and although Chappo’s Ali saved brilliantly to deny John Hickling, Andy May and General Derek Wilkinson ensured the trophy came MSR’s way. “We are coming to get you” was the shout from more than one team to MSR on the day but maybe there was uncertainty of what MSR are capable of on the big 5 a side stage, there isn’t anymore!!

A special mention for Simon Wilkinson who for the second year in a row got injured. He was awesome in the early games and well deserved to be in the winning squad. Maybe next year he will finally make it through to the final, that would be nice and as for Gandolph, well he will be 63!!

MSR DO IT AGAIN

The annual Masser’s Solicitors tournament was held for the second year in a row at Carton’s Bill Stokeld stadium and once again MSR came out triumphant.

The side looked very different to the one which ply’s its trade here on a Thursday night with shop managers Dave Fryer, Steve Scott, Danny Tee and Adam Buckley all making appearances.

In group 1 Edward Jones and the Yorkshire Bank made the running both finishing on 7 points, Edward Jones claimed top spot courtesy of a better goal difference. Massers themselves came bottom with no points while David James finished with 3.

In group 2 MSR won their group with Oliver Jones Associates finishing 2nd and the Royal Bank of Scotland 3rd.   There was cracking semi final between Edward Jones and Oliver Jones Associates which went the way of Edward Jones, Scott Rogers with a brace was their hero. MSR meanwhile upped the tempo beating the Yorkshire Bank 4-1 with goals from John Hickling, Steve Scott, Danny Tee and Scott Buckley. Hickling also had a penalty saved by the giant and excellent Yorkshire Bank keeper and so to the final.

It seemed a game too far for the Edward Jones boys as they visibly tired and with only 5 fit players, MSR were soon in control in the final. Hickling hit a brace early on and went on to score 4. It was a fine tournament for the young Hickling who had been substituted in MSR’s 1st game after a woeful start to the competition. Ashley Winfield and Scott Buckley secured a 6-1 win but the goal of the match and possibly the night came from Pip Samra who unleashed an unstoppable drive past Adam Buckley for the Edward Jones goal, that was a classy finish indeed.

Massers Jeff Alvey spoke in the clubhouse sports bar as the players tucked into supper and took in the West Germany v Turkey thriller showing on the club’s 5 screens. Alvey thanked and praised Carlton for another excellent event and tournament Chief Mark Steggles commented on the fine spirit the competition was played in. Steggles also gave the final to referee Tim Bee a surprise move given Steggles liking of the big stage.

Final word from Vic at Massers “We will be back next year, it’s been thoroughly enjoyable.” By this time Steggles was on his 3rd glass of wine, celebrating another successful event.

FRET SENDS OPEN LETTER TO CARLTON TOWN

Dear Mick,

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for a really emotional and uplifting day on Sunday. It was an event I will never forget and will always recall with pride. I never realised I had so many people supporting me during this traumatic time of my life.

I would like to thank you and Dave Fryer for all your hard work in organising the event. My thanks to Gary Boon and everyone from Nat West for their support on the day. Thanks to Tommy Brookbanks and everyone connected with Carlton Town FC for their hard work and support.

I was really touched by Shannon and Lewis’s efforts on my behalf. They were both superstars for their caring and compassionate attitude.

My thanks for the phenomenal amount of money you raised for me. This will now make it possible for me and my wife to have a much needed holiday.

Would you please tell everyone that thanks to them all I have a renewed determination to fight this illness and to beat it! With all the positives I got from Sunday, how can I fail !!!!!!!!! in the words of ‘Arnie’…………”I’LL BE BACK”………………..

On a personal note to you my family, I send you heartfelt thanks for everything you have done for me................ YOU’RE THE BEST…………………………..

FANTASTIC TRIBUTE FOR FRET

Carlton Town's main sponsors MSR Newsgroup brought proceedings to a close for the 2007/2008 season at Stoke Lane as they won a charity match in support of their loyal employee Steve Frettingham who has had to stand down from his job as shop manager due to cancer

Fret as he is affectionally known has suffered two heart attacks and a stroke in a torrid few months and the companies employees, current and former MSR footballers came together to raise money which will hopefully give ‘Fret’ at least a nice holiday before he undertakes more chemotherapy.

Massive credit to former MSR employee Gary Boon who put the Nat West side together in what proved to be a cracking afternoon. For the record MSR with a squad of 18 had the better of the football and Carlton Head Coach Tommy Brookbanks himself a former MSR player was the star of the show with a fine hatrick.

For the first time ever MSR Manager Mick Garton played a 4-3-3 formation with John Hickling and Simon Wilkinson starting either side of Brookbanks. Dave Fryer, Lee Hanstock, Pete Knowles and Dayne Lowe proved to be rather rotund fullbacks and in Dave’s case as enthusiastic as ever as he powered in for big challenge after big challenge.

Nat West Boys James Hallam and Gary Boon also looked slightly bigger these days but their hearts were in the right place as they turned up to raise money for Fret. Muppet Dave as he was known in his MSR Days and his brother Steve were also on the Nat West team sheet and Steve was to score their only goal in the 2nd half and a corker it was.

Aside from Brookbanks’ hatrick, Dean Gent a former MSR worker who is still allowed the odd run out in an MSR 5 aside shirt scored 2, Sam Hilton got one as did Scott Greswell and Simon Wilkinson in MSR’s 8-1 win. Greg last, MSR’s 1st ever captain now 44 turned up and put in a polished display in goal and MSR’s Andy Bordognia captained the side, he and Fret had worked closely together when Andy first joined MSR. The Wilkinson family turned out in force which was much appreciated as did the May family and many of MSR’S staff along with Fret’s family. Christine Williams ran the raffle and Shannon Garton and Lewis Brookbanks ran a cake and card stall to raise money for Fret.

Carlton Chairman and MSR Managing Director Mick Garton had said on Friday he was hoping to raise £500 for Fret, the fact the fund made £731 gave him and the team at MSR, Carlton Town and Nat West massive satisfaction and Frets daughter Lucy on behalf of the family sent in a moving thank you card to Mick, Shannon and all at Carlton Town and Nat West Group for what they had done.

It was a truly moving day for a guy who after 10 years service at MSR has been going through hell. It was fitting that the long serving and highly respected Tom Bartles came up to present Fret with the proceeds, it was a day for the good guys and Fret undoubtedly is one of them, he MSR and the club thank everyone for their kind support, it was brilliant.

MARQUIN HITS THE BIG ONE

PRESENTATION NIGHT FULL REPORT

FRIDAY 9th MAY

A packed clubhouse listened intently as Manager Tommy Brookbanks and Chairman Mick Garton presented the Carlton Town annual awards ceremony and it was youngster Marquin Smith who picked up the big prize of the first team players player.

The important thing on a Carlton Town awards night has always been to recognise the unsung heroes who put in the hard work in the background and manager Brookbanks paid a massive tribute to his Chairman Mick Garton before giving individual mentions to the backroom staff and welcoming back club photographer Tim Scott after his brush with death earlier this year.

The Chairman then made some very special presentations to new Press Officer Brian Dennett who had just completed his first season at Stoke Lane, Senior Steward Peter Bignall, Tournament Chief Mark Steggles and Groundsman Bob Sharpe who have all done a fantastic job this season for the club.

Academy Manager Stefan Benbow and his Father John were first up for the Academy and awards went to Steven Cox (players player), Zach Bartlett (managers players) and Greg Ellis (clubman).

Reserve Managers George Hulley and Frank Corrigan were next up; they were celebrating the treble no less.

Ashley Winfield received the players player, Danny Hayes the managers player and Ian White was clubman, Ashley Winfield was also awarded the Ron Walker plaque; a new trophy to celebrate the late Ron Walker’s contribution to the club, this will sit in pride of place on the bar and be awarded annually to the Reserves players player of the year.

Tommy Brookbanks called up his coaching staff for the first team awards and it was a joint effort for managers award with Michael Martin and David Jephson both receiving trophies.

Young player of the year went to talented Terry Hawkridge who has recently broken into the first team set up while leading scorer Darryl Thomas received the Chairman’s award in recognition of his 26 goals, clubman was once again Chris Chaplin but the big one, players player, went to Marquin Smith.

Smith has got better as the season has progressed and will be delighted at receiving the prime award from his fellow players.

There were flowers for the Doors sisters and while the club decided against a disco this year, there was Pete Tong in the background banging out the official start to the weekend on Carlton’s five screens, it was a good start to the weekend for Carlton’s winners and particularly Marquin Smith, now all that was left to do was dance and everybody did, it had been a decent season.

The Carlton players, coaches and staff donated £90 and local MP Vernon Coaker and Son topped that up to £100 which was well appreciated by Brookbanks who spoke in the clubhouse after the game.
